Silicon Valley-based El Camino Hospital to Use Glowpoint to Showcase Live, Two-way HD Videoconferencing

HD Visual Communications can lead to faster decision making

HILLSIDE, N.J. February 1, 2007 Glowpoint, Inc. (OTC:GLOW.PK), a leading broadcast-quality, IP-based managed video service provider, announced that it is providing the high-quality secure network that is required to showcase high definition (HD) two-way video to the medical world at El Camino Hospital on February 1.

During a live, two-way video conference with the City of Hope Hospital in southern California, cancer physicians will share data on cases involving difficult-to-treat liver tumors. The HD technology allows physicians to remotely share images at precise levels of detail, clarity, and resolution - not possible with standard definition - from individual blood vessels in a surgical video to the granular details on a pathology slide.

This real-time collaboration can lead to faster decision making, said surgical oncologist Shyamali Singhal, director of El Camino Hospitals Cancer Center. The high-definition visual communications technology allows us to share detailed CT scans and pathology slides with physicians in other institutions. The implications for physicians collaborative education are enormous as we can now remotely share sharp, clear views.

With the introduction of HD two-way video communications in the medical world, the need for an extremely high-quality, reliable and secure service becomes critical, said Michael Brandofino, Glowpoints president and CEO.  Glowpoint is pleased to have been selected as the service for this application. Its a great way to show how far this technology has advanced and we look forward to supporting various medical applications with HD.

Our hope is to go beyond patient conferences and educational seminars, Singhal said. We hope to broadcast and view live surgical cases over the secure network, and share that information with some of the most preeminent medical institutions in the United States.
