Talk Show Host Dr.Phil McGraw to Speak With Military Couples on Valentine's Day Video Calls
Glowpoint, MSpace, TANDBERG team with Freedom Calls Foundation to connect Iraq-based military personnel with families through free video calls
HILLSIDE, N.J. January 21, 2008 – Talk show host and best-selling author Dr. Phil McGraw will speak to military couples on Valentine’s Day through free videoconferencing calls provided by Glowpoint, MSpace, TANDBERG and Freedom Calls Foundation. The free videoconferencing calls will be available to military families at eight U.S. locations, enabling them to connect with loved ones stationed in Iraq on Valentine’s Day.
Dr. Phil will participate in three, half-hour video conversations with military couples on a first-come, first-served basis. Military families can register for “‘Mission: See Your Soldier’ with Dr. Phil” at www.glowpoint.com.
Through private, 30-minute videoconferencing calls, families in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, and California will connect face-to-face with their deployed loved ones located at one of five military installations in Iraq with Freedom Calls centers: Camp Al Asad, Camp Taji, Camp Fallujah, Camp Victory (limited capability) and Camp Taqaddum.
Last month, Glowpoint, MSpace, TANDBERG and Freedom Calls Foundation connected military personnel to their families during the end-of-year holidays.
“We were extremely touched this past holiday season by the heartbreaking stories and sacrifices made by our troops and their families, and how appreciative the families were to see their loved ones face-to-face,” said Michael Brandofino, president and CEO of Glowpoint. “We wanted to make this available for more families – and what better time than Valentine’s Day?”
Dr. Phil added: “I am honored to get the chance to talk with soldiers and their families on Valentine’s Day. It’s a very small way to let them know we’re listening, not just on that day, but every day they and appreciate their loved one’s sacrifice for us during this difficult time.”
Alice and Julia Byrd of Reston, Virginia, said of the experience: “Thank you so very much … My daughter and I were tickled to see Gordon as the son and brother we both know and enjoy. This is a great use for high-tech stuff … I hope many people take you up on this act of kindness.”
Interested military families should contact Christopher Welch, executive coordinator, at cwelch@glowpoint.com or (866) 456-9764 x 2002 by than 5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, January 31, 2008 to reserve a call time.
